(Gonder) In their Premier League season, Fasil Town has impressed a lot of people by finishing third in the first round, with a 2-0 victory over Wolayta Dicha. Hawassa Town has landed safely out of relegation with a 2-0 away victory over Ethiopia NegedBank. The looser of that match has been struggling and is in danger of regulation.
What took the sport fans by surprise was Fasil Town’s performance throughout the first round, collecting 26 points to out muscle Adama Town and claim the third spot. Known as “The Emperors” the Gondar based outfit inspired by young head coach Zemariam W/Giorgis has amazed fans by outgunning heavy weights even on their own turf.
Meanwhile, Tsegaye Kidanemariam’s Ethiopia NegedBank performed the worst in the first round. They went seven successive matches without a win including a 5-2 thrashing by Ethiopia Bunna followed by a 4-1 demolition at the hands of Saint George then a shocking 2-0 defeat to Fasil Town, the financially strong side nosedived to 15th in the table with just 13 points.
Fourth in the table with goal differences Adama Town is a strong title contender but its recent results show they are losing momentum. Defensive minded Ashenafi Bekele is expected to be busy in the transfer window beefing up his squad.
Though a humble squad, Sidama Bunna performed well above expectations. The Dilla based team is fifth in the table just four points behind the league leaders. Ethiopia Bunna’s recent record shows it is back in the game. Four wins and two draws under interim coach Gezahne Ketema, “The Brown Shirts” might be even stronger after the break. Jimma AbaBuna with 13 points, NegedBank with 13 and Addis Ababa Town with ten are all in danger of relegation.
With 29 points from 15 matches Saint George finished top of the league table followed by Dedebit FC two points down. Both sides have been criticized for performing well below expectations.
